Abstract
In this work, a study of the wave climate in a region of the Peruvian Sea Basin is carried out using wave spectral data. Time series of 10-year buoy ocean data are processed. The analysis of the wave climate presented that the maximum values and variability of wave power and significant wave height occur during the winter months. In contrast, features such as wave energy period, wave power directionality coefficient and direction of maximum directional wave power tend to remain constant over the year. Furthermore, it was found that the maximum directional wave power concentrates around the 50 % of the omnidirectional wave power with a directionality South to North and a dispersion of 40 °. These conditions show potential for wave energy converter installations near the region’s coast.
